Further to attending the Guerilla FIlmmakers Masterclass a few weeks ago, I was highly motivated to make a short film. And we ended up making not one but two – both with a very tight deadline in order to enter them into Virgin Media Shorts – one of the best short film competitions around – and with a very sought after prize – the 12 shortlisted films get played in cinemas for a year. The films have to be U/PG rated and also can be no longer than 2min20sec (a tricky amount of time to tell an absorbing story in). Anyway here’s what we ended up with:
Candy Crime
This script / idea was shown to me by Leilani Holmes at the masterclass and I immediately liked it as it not only had a something to say very efficiently, but also had a main role for my daughter – an accomplished actress herself.
With Holly Jacobson, Pierre Marku, Adain Bradley, Matt Rogers & Morgan Leighton
Written by Leilani Holmes
Sound by Farid El-Jazouli
Music by Maryann & Michael Tedstone
I did the rest (with some assistance from Benjamin Davis).
We have a Facebook page here too: http://www.facebook.com/candycrimefilm
Air Mail
This one was written by Philip Pugh and Nusha Amini. In order to make it work, we really had to go to town on the production design – some of which can be seen on our Facebook page.
With Charlotte Lyne, Adain Bradley and Tom Synnott-Bell
Written by Philip Pugh and Nusha Amini
Sound by Farid El-Jazouli
Music by Maryann & Michael Tedstone
Concept art and storyboard by Emma Fitzpatrick
Filmed by Alan Campbell
Assisted by Ian Tatham
Titles by Shane Barrell
Directed and Edited by me.
I got some of the great paper aeroplane designs from this great free site.
Fingers crossed for the shortlist which is published in September.
